The Dalmatian Chanson' is a Šibenik festival that is widely recognised for many things, but primarily for its quality, both in terms of organisation and artistic content. With its dedicated and serious work, and by choosing the best Croatian performers and lyrical and musical authors, it has become one of the leading Croatian cultural and musical festivals.
One of the specialties of the festival is that all songs are performed live, be it to the festival orchestra, a band or Klapa ensemble or just to a guitar or piano.
The programme of the festival comprises two evenings: The Evening of Old Compositions and the Evening of New Compositions. Special attention is equally paid to the Evening of New Compositions (the call for new compositions is announced in February of every year) and to the selection of the old ones – compositions that have left a mark on the Croatian musical scene throughout the past forty years. The old compositions are frequently interpreted in new ways, with numerous artists in various fusions of soloists, Klapas or ensembles.
The festival is always held in the second half of August, i.e. the first weekend after Assumption Day (15.08. -2.08.). As an introduction to the festival, traditionally painting exhibitions are organised in various Šibenik galleries, as well as classical and religious music concerts.
