To us in Solaris, olive harvest is an important local story that we want to convey to our children, so we have included the youngest in the tradition of our region during Soliva days 2015. They spent a fun day outdoors playing, drawing and singing . Children from the elementary school Matija Gubec from Zagreb picked centuries-old olive trees in Solaris, with a rich brunch, and then together with our hosts in the village they turned it into their own young olive oil and tasted it with hot bread from our bakery fireplace. School director Linda Zelic was impressed: “Two perfect sunny days and experience of Dalmatia and its tradition thrilled us all.” First-hand experience of harvest was interesting to the children from Catholic primary school in Sibenik as well. In Dalmatian Ethno Village they learned how to get flour in the mill, and then they baked fresh bread in the fireplace. Our lovely hostess in the Village explained them how to get olive oil. They played in the garden full of vegetables, and then they drew olive trees along the stream. Soliva days was something new to the kids from the kindergarten “Sunce” from Brodarica near Šibenik. Solarko, our favorite mascot impressed them most, as they put on a recital about olive tree for him. Soliva days are without a doubt an incredible experience you’ll want to relive.
