The wind generally influences the climate to a great extent and in the Dalmatian region the most important ones are bura, jugo and maestral (the north wind, the south wind, the landward breeze). Bura is the well-known wind of the Dalmatian area which blows from the land towards the sea and is a cold and dry wind. Bura is most frequent during the cold period of the year, whereas jugo is a south-eastern wind, bringing the warm and humid air. During the warm period of the year maestral appears as well, blowing when the weather is fair, soothing the daily heats on the islands and near the coast.
